About

Established in 1994, The Besoro Child Foundation is a small UK non-for profit organisation dedicated to providing transformative support to the youth living in the rural village of Besoro, Ghana.

A Rising Tide Lifts All Boats

With a population of  approximately 30 million, Ghana is currently categorized as a high-potential, lower-middle-income country.

The youth make up 36% of Ghana’s population with approximately 46% living in rural areas*.

*Ghana Statistical Service 2018

The country’s educational system sends about 210,000 unemployable unskilled and semiskilled young Ghanaians into the labour market each year**.

**Ghana Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations 2014

A 2018 study revealed differences in the aspirations of young people in rural and urban settings***.

  • Poverty influences young people’s hopes.

  • Young people in rural areas have limited role models and experiences from which to develop aspirations compared with their urban counterparts, who are exposed to a much wider range of professions and options.
